Announcing Our First Authors Retreat

Turn Your Book Idea Into A Reality

Over the years, I’ve written a good number of books. Because of that, people often come up to me and say, “I’ve got a book idea.” Sometimes, it is even followed by, “ I’ve been sitting on it for years.”

I’ve heard that story more times than I can count, from some of the smartest people in my field. Folks with incredible stories, lessons, and insights that need to be shared. I always think the same thing: “I would absolutely read that book if they wrote it.”

However, not long ago, I was in a similar boat.

I have written several books, mostly around DevOps and IT transformation, but for years, there was one book I kept putting off. It was a book about Dr. W. Edwards Deming. His ideas around systems thinking and quality have shaped so much of how I see the world, but I struggled to get them from my head onto the page. Then, one day, I was fortunate enough to meet Derek Lewis.

Derek is a book coach, editor, and all-around book whisperer, who introduced me to the process he created called the Frankendraft. The Frankendraft process is about assembling your ideas, voice, and structure into a living, breathing draft that reflects what you want to say. It is kind of like stitching together the best parts of your thoughts and experience. It might be rough in spots, but it will be full of momentum and direction. This process completely changed the trajectory of this book.

Working with Derek and using that process is what finally made the Deming book happen. After years of talking about it, Derek and I published Deming’s Journey to Profound Knowledge in 2024, and I couldn’t be prouder.

Now, we want to help you do the same.

If you have a book in you, whether it is about tech, leadership, systems, transformation, or just your journey, this is your moment. Derek and I are proud to announce the first-ever Frankendraft Authors Retreat, happening October 2–3, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia. It is a live, two-day, in-person workshop designed to give you the clarity, momentum, and tools to finally bring your book idea to life. We will walk you through the exact process I used to make my Deming book real, from structure and strategy to mindset and creative flow.

However, we are limiting this retreat to just 12 authors. That way, everyone gets personal attention, real feedback, and deep support.

If you have a book idea in you, maybe even one that has been sitting there for years, now is the time to stop waiting.

Join us in Atlanta. Let’s finally write your book.
